Actually, this is how I do things now. I pass the module id to the JavaScript function and build the element id on the fly like this:

var elementId = "dnn_ctr" + moduleId + "_ViewModule_Image1";

It just doesn't seem like the best way. There's got to be a more structured way of doing it.

Its actually quite a dangerous way to create your ids, for there is no guarantee that dnn_ctr will always be the naming container id.  What I usually do is assign a variable the namespace from the module.

var m_MyModuleNamespaceVar = '<%=MyControl.NamingContainer.ClientID%>';

then in my separate js file

var ctl = $(m_MyModuleNamespaceVar + 'mycontrolname');

Thanks Jon,
This looks like the answer I was looking for.

Just one clarification, where and how do you declare the namespace var? In the ascx Load event on the server side? Can you post a small sample?

You could put in in the page_load event of the codebehind.  However, it is probably much easier to include it in the ascx file.

just make a script section with the following

< script language=........>

   var m_sMyNS = '<%=MyControl.NamingContainer.ClientID%>';

Makes perfect sense. Thanks!
