not sure if i understand you correctly. You want to bind a server side control using a client side script?

yes. i want to bind a server control using javascript or AJAX. ie without using codebehind. i could fill the dropdownlist with dataset content from html page.

You should look in Microsoft ASP.NET Forums. It's not a dotnetnuke issue. Anyway good luck !  :-)

AJAX helps you get to the server without the page postback (appears like all javascript in the UI).  Unless your dataset is coded (or generated) into the javascript you have to get to the server somehow....
