Do you mind posting your code?  Unless you are manipulating the data in some way, you shouldn't have to bind to a literal control.  If you're just retrieving text and stuffing it into a gridview column, you can just use a regular BoundField.  This should handle the decode for you.  Even if you are using a TemplateColumn, you should be able to bind directly in your ItemTemplate.

Thanks both for taking the time to try and help, I have solved the problem now and it was my fault I missed a key eliment.

I was concentrating so much on the display of entered data that I didnt examine the initial data entry side of things :(

I thought I would start a fresh with a brand new ascx file and it was then I noticed the HTMLEncode True/False on the properties for the TextEditor.
I hadnt set this previously.
I set that to false and then also set the HTMLEncode to false on the gridview cell and hey presto :)

I thought it would be something silly but I was too close to it to see it at the time.

I'm glad you figured it out.  Temporary blindness happens to all of us.  Especially after a couple of days looking at the same thing.  Let us know if you run into any other problems.
