I am using the new Starter Template model to convert my DNN3 modules to DNN4.  I don't like this model mainly because of the compile time... I can't exclude the DNN project from building and ONLY build my module project. Otherwise I think it is great and I applaud Shaun and the team for making this starter kit available.  I also see the benefit of making a template useable in VWD.

I am having one last issue with Shaun's method:

The last step of packaging up my PA is giving me trouble.  I am going the "Publish Site" route, then trying to use the weirdly named DLL's in my PA zip file.  The module install is going fine, but when I try to add my module to a page I get an exception... the Log Viewer shows more detail:

"The file '/DesktopModules/Beldin_MyModule/MyModule.ascx.cs' does not exist" exception.

Yet I have included the generated DLL for this file - will it work without including the source-behind files?

I just found my problem with the "file does not exist exception".

I had copied the "MyModuleView.ascx" from my working code folder, instead of the PrecompiledWeb folder that VS2005 created.  It actually changes the first line in the ascx file to reference the created DLL instead of the code behind file.

To create modules compatible with the StarterKit example, you can also use DNN KickStart.

All the code will be created for automaticly, this program can be downloaded for free on http://www.dnnkickstart.com
