How do I install the source files into a visual studio 2008 project in order to modify it. Also, are there any special tools that can be used to help with this type of development?

get latest source version of links (4.0.0) from the download page, install as usual and you shall have no problems opening it using VS2008. Since links is a WAP project, open the enclosed project file.

I have the source download. My original question is how to install it as usual? I didn't see any instructions for installing the links source as a project?

you need a running DNN portal, where you install it using "install new module" in Host :: Module Definitions.
