Hi,

I'm using visual studio 2008, on vista business 64bit, and i'm creating a module of my own. The issue i have is that i cannot seem to debug it:

  • I am running vs 2008 as administrator
  • I have IIS7, with all IIS6 options enabled in windows programs
  • In IE7's options, i've unchecked the boxes that disable debugging

And when i click Debug (or F5), i see my site as run from IIS (it's also an application there), and no breakpoints i set are ever reached.

Any solutions?

Make sure you are running VS in Debug mode and you have Debug="true" in your web.config. VS will usually prompt you to make the changes if the web.config isn't configured for Debug.

The Configuration Manager tells me the active solution configuration is Debug, and all projects are debug (including the website). And yes, the web.config file does contain the debug="true" item. So that's not the issue unfortunately :-(

Make sure your project build settings are putting the dll's in the correct place. Also, is your module set up as a website or WAP project?

Perhaps it's better if I explain my setup first, maybe that's incorrect already..

  • First, I downloaded both DNN 5.0.1 source and install.zips
  • Then, I made the folder structure c:\dnn\Library and c:\dnn\Website
  • Then, I unzipped the install zip to Website, created an empty table in my ms sql server, created an Application in IIS 7 at c:\dnn\Website\, and installed DNN through http://localhost/application
  • Then, I unzipped the source.zip over c:\dnn, thereby replacing all files it asked about
  • This left me with a working installation, which includes the source as well
  • Then I opened the DotNetNuke_VS2008.sln file, which complained that it didn't find the website (duh, it expects Dotnetnuke_Cambrian or something)
  • I deleted that website project from the solution, then did "Add existing website", and pointed it to c:\dnn\Website

To make a module, I right-click on the website project, "Add new item" and pick the DNN Module template, which adds code to DesktopModules and App_Code. Then I just program whatever, and click the Debug button to start the website.

This opens up http://localhost:randomport/application, which immediately redirects to http://localhost/application.

The issue now is that I can't debug (as in, put breakpoints) in my code. Well, I can, but there's no breaking on them ("symbol not loaded").
