Do you manage a single DotNetNuke portal or large number of portals and want to be able to know what your users are doing in your portals?  If Yes then Big Brother is the solution for you.

Big Brother is a event monitoring and a statistical analysis system providing users with the ability to track system changes and perform reports on changes in site log, event log, modules and pages from a single control panel.  Tracking abilities include

  • Tracking Users access to a portal
  • Tracking Events and SiteLog of the portal
  • Tracking Changes to Pages/Tabs in the portal
  • Tracking Changes to Modules instances in the Portal

Big Brother provide users with the ability to track changes in multiple portals from within a single control panel.  In addition there are also the abilities to archive and export of log files if no longer needed.

I just registered and will check it out...but you probably knew that.  ;)  Get it?  :)

...ever consider adding the "where they are" feature, or whatever it is called that allows you to see which users are on what pages and their paths?  That's got 'Big Brother' written all over it and would sweeten the proverbial pot.

This module sounds very interesting and I will most likely register tonight and check it out.  But I have a few questions.

1.  What are the performance impacts with using this module?  How does it affect load and responsie times for edits and other activities

2.  What are the database usage impacts, does this module copy over site and event log data creating duplicate sets of information?  Or does it simply report on the records inside the DNN logs?

This is feature is already available.  If you drill down to the User Details screen you'll see the pages and when they have been accessed

The module rely on the core logging mechamisn to perform the required stats generation.  It does not add any additional logging overhead to the system.  Performance wise, it is like any other module.

Big Brother has the ability to report on any specified time window it therefore needs to have it own version of the sitelog and event log.  This is because by default, sitelog information are removed if it is older than a a specified number of days.

To reduce the database usage impact we have also implemented an archival facility which can be used to archive uneeded log information which can later be imported back to the system if required.
