If database and webserver were on the same box, as in some hosting instances, that wouldn't be a problem, but for many of us, we don't have that setup. Are you able to do a natural SQL backup from the webserver when it is on a different box from the SQL Server, and without write privileges to the file system on the SQL Server itself? Backing up, then to disk space on the web server?

If so ... I'm excited.

Me too....

This would be a limitation \ oversight of the current version.  Thanks for your feedback.

I'm still excited.

I hope to have a solution to this problem as well as several enhancements to the current module in the next few weeks.

Silverlight can also help you here if you're willing to go down that path. Silverlight will not time out so if you're connected to a SQL server and you are pulling data, it can wait for hours while the data is being pulled. You can save the data in the users Isolated Storage using an Isolated Storage database (http://silverdb.codeplex.com/) so you can resume if needed.

As the last step the user clicks a button and the SaveFile box pops up and allows the user to save the file where they want.

Hey, Michael -

I've been watching your Silverlight work with interest. Is it all about UI, or would it have a place in a scheduled and unattended operation?

I'd like to go to bed and have my databases get backed up while I sleep; you know, the way it should be.

You can use a program Like Rocket Launcher to launch it on a schedule.
