For me (as developer) was nightmare to support two payment systems, two listing, two… etc.  I think users have the same problems: two usernames, two… If snowcovered will spoil then someone will open better service – it is open market. Now I’m really glad everything is under one roof

Kind regards,

Primoz

Hopefully this will lead to a massive cull of all the 'dead' modules on Snowcovered - those that are no longer supported or that do not work with later versions of DNN. Getting involved with these dead end modules has been a very time consuming, wasteful, and expensive problem. I also hope the review process can be improved upon.

It would also be great if there was encouragement of a standardized system of trial periods for modules - complete usablity for 30 days until you have to purchase, something along those lines, with standard activation and verification procedures.

thanks,

Will Sugg

Years later and after zero progress on completing Helm 4, Parallels has a Helm product that looks substantially like Plesk to my eye.  However, I just moved on and now greatly enjoy life with the amazing DotNetPanel.  The situations appear to have many similarities to me, so I have little expectation that SnowCovered will somehow get better, improve, etc.  Instead, the best thing to look forward to is the "we saw and we learned and we won't do it that way" company/project that replaces SnowCovered.  Sadly any sign of its beginnings are not even on my radar screen yet.  At the very least, hopefully SnowCovered will at least remain "as is" for a significant period of time.

I am hoping I don't sound too bleak - I always enjoy and admit to being wrong, especially when it is to my or everyone's benefit, so I will be there cheering if SnowCovered transforms in to an impressive vendor tools without making the buyer's experience any worse.  - Jeremy

I agree. I liked the independancy of snowcovered.com. I really hope not much will change into that, especially the rating / reviews system...

Interesting post this is - I have been writing my own thoughts on this and rehashed them over and over again...I too have mixed feelings but you know what guys, at the end of the day, the power is within all to create some competition.  No matter what happens, there is always opportunity if you feel you can improve or do better.

Would it be hard - it could be, it most likely would be, but it's certainly doable and look at it this way, there are many more people around than there were when Brice first started his venture. Is Snow perfect? No, but he got the timing and the mix right and help set the path.. so where are you guys to help raise the bar a little and improve on it?

It's times like these I wish I was a really good developer because I see nothing but opportunity, except for the fact I can't code and all I ever do is admire those smart people.

I know sometimes I have this 'tough love' approach with DNN, but I'm still happy to use use after many years, and that is although I always look and compare with other products.  So I say guys - if you're not happy with the outcome, then get together and create the competition.  That I think would be interesting times.  I'm only ever an email away from an idea or suggestion.
