Hello.

It seemed like www.dotnetnuke.com had a little problem yesterday afternoon here in the states.  Around 2-3PM EDT yesterday the home page was available, but any of the links on the page gave a database error (index, or array out of bounds) and reported DNN 4.5...

It was about an hour and then the site was back normal.  Did anyone else experience those symptoms?

I am a new user of the framework and like it very much.

Regards,

ltm

That only happened yesterday, I posted my original message on 3/13/07, two days prior to the announced day of delivery and at that point the site was still running 4.4.1.  And at that point they had not announced the delay to the 19th either.

Like I tried to explain before, it does not matter how much you appreciate the work of the Core Team, and I also do appreciate it a lot, they now have a serious responsibility to respond to the community.  Yes, they do.  That is why they formed a corporation to back DNN, because they wanted to be taken more seriously, with that they also get more responsibilities.  And those of us that use DNN for our business and government clients can ask questions, DNN is no longer a novely for hobbyists.  And by the way, please don't tell me that they are volunteers and that we have to be patient because of that, they know what they are getting into when they volunteer.  We are not demanding that they work faster, we can wait, but the Core Team members as well as the members of the various project teams have a lot of room for improvement in the communications with the community area.  Please don't tell me to volunteer my time either, I already do plenty for DNN by recommending it to my clients whenever I can and by trying to help in these forums.

AFAIK there was a site failure yesterday - eventually due to the fact, that DotNetNuke.com already got dogfooded with DNN 4.5.0 RC. This will be investigated to make sure, that this issue has been fixed in the final version. The core team has the intend to release DNN on March, 19th, but please be patient, if there is another minor delay, due to the time needed for the fix.

Regarding the team's dogfooding strategy, have a look at this thread.

I agree with Westa -- let's give the group some slack here.  I'd rather they take the time they need to fix things they find rather than me having major headaches with a site upgrade.  Microsoft can delay things for years, these guys can have a few extra days AFAIC.

Eagerly awaiting the release -- but patiently :-)

Greetings All ~

We definitely do eat our own dogfood around here... in fact, we do a better job of that than most.  We don't eat it behind closed doors... we push it right out here for everyone to see... warts and all.  As far as when we dogfood... we'll probably never do that on an RC1... nor would we recommend anyone do that.  RC1 is the first package that goes to a controlled audience for their brutal real world testing (testing major site upgrades).  Invariably, new issues are discovered and an RC2 follows... and often, the final release is an RC3.

We dogfood after we've had a chance to evaluate RC1.  If we wait for RC2, it will then occur sometime shortly after RC2 is packaged, depending upon how the work is scheduled.  No mystery, no conspiracy, no failure to accept our responsibility, etc.  In this case RC2 was applied during a lower traffic window of site operation (usually late PM in the US) two business days after packaging was completed.

The questions are welcome.  The fact is, they have deliberate answers.  Everyone gets antsy around release time *grin*.
