When building a module, is there a way to turn the mode selector off? If I give a role or user the right to "edit" or add information, I wouldn't want to confuse them with the mode selector. Or is this just an issue with the forum module?

Thanks

Like Scott explains, you can keep this from happening by using custom permissions for the module (for a good example on custom persions have a look at UDT)

We are looking at this.  Actually, we're looking at it (as of last conversation) as a function of a portal level setting.

The use case here (with the mode selector) is a general one in which you are saying "allow me to see the site as a normal user" vs. "show me the edit controls available to me" which can often result in changes to UI (wider columns due to edit controls, panes, etc).  At the portal level, an administrator could determine if they were ready for thier users to be educated and use this feature or not (and perhaps never enable it).  The place where it is most confusing is for general pages that use the Edit permission, such as forums, blogs, etc.

As Erik indicated... new modules SHOULD be using custom permissions.  As to whether this completely resolves the question, I'm not sure that is 100% certain... unfortunately that is all I have for now.
