Thanks JK, that makes sense.
My main worry is multiple urls pointing to the same portal.  Most of my portals need a country domain and a .com.  I'm assuming that this will kill rankings and I'm looking at a local redirector to fix the problem

If you mean that you have a www.mysite.co.uk and a www.mysite.com pointing to the same portal, then yes you need to use a redirect - if you put a "301 moved permantly" redirect on the .co.uk you should be ok.

I'm not 100% sure what effect that will have on searches from google.co.uk - I will have to look into it to see if the mysite.co.uk will still show up in the "pages from the UK" search - it should do, but its better to find out for sure :)

I was just wondering what people's experience is of Google rankings with websites they've created with Dot Net Nuke?

Hi,

My experiences are very good (after I spent a bit of time applying standard, common-sense SEO tactics).

I have managed to get PokerDIY.com to number 1 in Google for a lot of search terms in a notoriously tough sector - poker. Try "find live poker", "local poker league" etc. (you can see more terms here on my blog).

Creating the correct set of entries in the robots.txt file takes time and effort - and usually requires 4 entries for each page to be added to robots.txt, thats a lot of entries for any website with more than a few pages.

So I have just released our latest SEO module, the new Robots.txt Generator Module for DotNetNuke 4.x.x, which is available now at www.snowcovered.com - this module automatically generates the entries for your robots.txt with just one click.
