We just released Beta 1 of digContest which is a module that allows you to do photo, poetry, caption, or custom contests.  Check it out at www.dignuke.com.  You can download the free Lite version and check it out.

Hello: You may also want to take a look at Ultra Media Gallery 3.0 at snowcovered.com.  It has a "Personal Gallery" module which extends the gallery by allowing registered users to upload and manage their photos, and share them with others.  It has been around for sometime and is one of the best selling modules on snowcovered.

Sounds interesting!

<shameless plug> You could also look at the core Repository module. If you use the built-in registration services to collect user registrations, then created a role that registered users would be assigned to, you could create a page, drop a Repository module on it, select the 'slides' template ( or create your own template ) and allow that registered group to upload photos. The Repository module has built-in support for rating and commenting.</shameless plug>
