Well, it has been almost 4 years now, and I have seen little progress in this field. We run DNN for our school website, but the teachers are driving right past it and moving their online courses to various Moodle sites around the country.

If someone had developed some modules, similar to what Moodle has, DNN would have had a major influx into the educational field by now. But instead it is being left in the dust...

Albeit there are a few 3rd party LMS modules available on Snowcovered.  I have to agree with you.  The lack of a readily available LMS which dosent have a gouging licence, usage restrictions and pricing is a real problem.

We at EDMEDiA do a lot of learning implementations with corporations here in Australia and have tried to shoe horn DNN into the projects as best as possible. But with our latest implementations we are using Drupal and Alfresco as the CMS and either Moodle or Docebo as the LMS.

I do need to point out that you can integrate DNN with Moodle and Docebo.  Docebo has a API for this and there are some DNN modules kicking around to at least do SSO to Moodle,  but it comes down to how many platforms do I want to support in each project and what is the TCO for the client.

Also It isn't difficult to have PHP and .net working within the same environment.  However I would be interesting to know if anyone uses apache and a WINTEL box to deliver DNN.

Anyhow I would like to see a DNN LMS project, and would be interested in contributing to the project.

regards

Marcel

I will agree that it is not that difficult to get both of them working in the same environment, but why should we have to? DNN has more than enough of an API to do everything that Moodle does, and much-much more. Why do we have to create a shell environment to have a second website do the work for us? Not to mention the security risks of running multiple web environments on one box...

Dan,

My company provides one of the 3rd party LMS's available at SnowCovered.com.  Our pricing is very low for the industry (since we are SCORM conformant), we have NO required reoccurring licensing (we do offer an inexpensive maintenance license, but it is totally optional), and have no limits on the number of users, courses, etc.  You may want to take a look.  Also, since you would qualify as a nonprofit, we offer substantial discounts that you can take advantage of.  We cannot give it away for free or there would be know one to support and continue development on the LMS, however we do try to keep out cost as low as we can go and avoid many of the "industry standard" was of gouging you, by NOT having any reoccurring fee requirements and unlimited users and courses (no scary yearly fees, no per user fees, etc).  Please contact me and let me see what I can do to get you going...
