I changed the locale to en-AU and set this a default language under Admin>Site but still the dates show as mm/dd/yy and not dd/mm/yy!!! (in Announcement mod). What am I doing wrong? There must be a simple way to get the dates working correctly.

I finally worked it out. After adding a language local under host a 'Language' dropdown appeared on the skin. So after selecting Australia from the dropdown the dates appeared correctly. I suppose this should be more clearly document for new users.

For registered users, locale is set according to "Preferred Locale" in his individual user profile.
