The beauty of DNN is that anyone can do development for it. If you are interested in supporting OpenSocial why not look at what would be involved in doing so and try your hand and making the necessary changes? Perhaps once completed that code might be useful and worth inclusion within the Core itself.

I, for one, don't really care about the OpenSocial platform.  But there is nothing preventing development of a module to host OpenSocial widgets in a DNN site.  This isn't something that puts DNN behind the times, it's one of the things that points out how flexible DNN is.

Can I get a hand raise, who'd like to see DNN become an OpenSocial container???

A better question is "How much would you pay for a module that would run OpenSocial in DNN?"

I don't know how much I would pay for the container, a big part of that has to do with what gadgets etc were available (and maybe came with the container).  Anything that can help expand dotnetnuke towards social networking will be supported.  I am currently attempting to use dotnetnuke for social networking even though there are products out there that allow for social networking easier.  The reason is the solid foundation dotnetnuke has allows for a lot of business side applications and can be used for many purposes.  I think if dotnetnuke were more easily used for social networking it could pull in new users for dotnetnuke and expand the ways current people use it in general.  Hopefully dnn will move toward social networking capabilites either in making changes to the core (a avatar object in the core that could be shared through modules) or a move to accept outside gadgets and modules, like opensocial.
