It is definetly ddlMC.SelectedItem.Value.  If I hardcode that value everything works fine.  For some reason it is acting as if there are no values in the dropdown.  If I try to hardcode the selected index as 0 I get a index out of bounds error.  There are valued in my dropdown list though.

I hate this Forum bug!...

I would reply to you, but there is still a forum bug that is preventing me from seeing the posted reply that I know you have made.  So, please do not think I am ignoring you if you have said anything that needs an immediate reply.  I will try to remember to revisit this post later.

Hey!  I see your post now...

Interesting...  It almost sounds like your viewstate is hosed on the return visit.  How and when are you binding items to that DropDownList?

I am binding the items on Page Load and only if not ispostback.  If I bind on postback as well then it is always the top item that gets selected.  I have checked my viewstate on everything and it is all set to true.

I believe that Brian indicated in his first post that the problem occurs following the first selection and submission (which would appear to do the redirect correctly) AND THEN CLICKS BROWSER BACK BUTTON and resubmits.  Since this would not be a postback (i.e. IsPostBack would be false), the drop down list is getting rebound to the datasource thus loosing the previous selection.  In the submit button click handler, first check that an item is selected, that is, ddlSMC.SelectedIndex<>-1 or alternatively that  NOT ddlSMC.SelectedItem Is Nothing. If an item is selected then perform the redirect otherwise display a prompt to first select an item.
