Tom,

The key problem with one of your items is that DNN corp doesn't seem to have an interest to make this happen...at least based on previous discussions on the topic.

I have been toying with the idea of setting up a contest on my DotNetNukePlanet.com domain, but I have an issue with limited bandwidth....It looks like it might be time for me to buy that dedicated server I have been thinking about....

Hey Mitch,

Check out my host.  I'll gladly help you with it if you need... Make sure you mention me if you do make a purchase but they are really good and the bandwidth is cheep.

I have a AMD64 Dual core windows 2003 1 gig ram, upgradable to 3 I think.  something like 160gig hard drive.  You get RDP access to the server, its "your" server.  Month to month, no long term contract.  I think I get 2000 gigs a month included.  This server is like 140 a month, but you can get them for, with windows, as little as around 90 a month for like 1200 gigs traffic, single core processor.  www.serverbeach.com

As for the skinning contest, I think if I remember correctly your a "teacher" in real life so maybe some input from you would help alot.  I kinda want to get some good skins out of it, but I also want to promote it for "newbies" just getting into DNN.

I don't want to get so crazy just yet as to have DotNetNuke themselves involved, or corporate sponsors or anything to big.  Just wanna test the waters a bit right now and kinda pump the idea if "free", by providing the results to the world.

Maybe get into a contest every couple months or something.

Give me an email sometime jmartin@dnnreactor.com if you wanna talk about it.  I think you're pretty close actually too.  I live near chicago.

Ok, that would explain why we haven't seen a skinning contest for a while, even though it seems like such a natural thing to support. Any company with enough skin in the game would do - it just needs to be somebody people would trust to handle the money they donate to the contest.

Well...I've officially launched the first one today.  I'm sure there will be some hickups along the way but I'm confident this community will bring it togather and make it work(if anyone signs up).

I"m taking the money out of my pocket for this contest, but I'd love to have one every couple months, and maybe in the future we can do some kind of "paypal" donation to the prize pool...but for now I just want to sponsor it myself till I work any bugs out.

As far as trust for me...who knows...I hope at least 10 people will participate and trust that I"ll pay out...but thats a tough thing to earn.  I'm hoping after the first successful payout that it will generate some buzz and comfort with the idea.

I'm sure there will be alot of good creative people out there who may be thinking "yeah right..this guys gunna just give away the money" and not waste thier time...but I guess ya gotta start somewhere.  We'll see.

But it's official anyhow.  You guys in this thread should at least throw one up there for fun...some real basic ones if you want just to help show participation.   Put a link back to your site in it of course.  Be creative as you can cause I doubt many will enter the frist go around :->, but you'll get some free advertsing.

As soon as a couple people register and skin it, I"ll post a nice set of links to the entires right off the main page of my site I guess.  I don't get crazy traffic yet, but every little bit helps.

And thanks for your input everyone.  These are good ideas.  Maybe we can collectivly come up with a cool site with some free skins for the world and get some more newbies out there to flex thier creative side!
