JHVC there is no easier way to solve this that I know of, as Brian said, the AjaxControlToolkit requires XHTML Transitional 1.0 sites, if you can't get your skin setup to use that the Modal Popup will not work properly.

Old thread, I know, but I just can't get freaking IE and DNN to work...

Anyone know of any better (i.e. detailed) instructions on how to make dnn actually allow me to use the Ajax Toolkit?

I followed the directions from the link on the first page of this post, but that doesn't appear to actually do anything...

I've created "MySkin.doctype.xml" where the specific page I'm trying to use is utilizing "MySkin.ascx" the .xml file contains this (and nothing else):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<SkinTypeDoc>
<![CDATA[<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">]]>
</SkinTypeDoc>

I've uploaded this to the same folder containing MySkin.ascx, but nothing happened that I could tell. I tried logging in as host and reparsing the skin package, but I still can't see any difference.

What am I doing wrong? And/or how can I tell if uploading that .xml file has made any change to the page?

n/m... I finally got it... sorry.
the first line should not have been present.

Of course, now the skin we purchased looks like shit, but I suppose I expected that.
It would be awesome if dnn could make something typically very simple very difficult. I like that.

The problem has nothing to do with DNN. The problem is that people need to be aware of the differences in xhtml versions and the way that affects display layouts on different browsers. The MS AJAX toolkit expects a certain doctype in order to work, which is well documented.

DNN has extensive capabilities to display the correct DOCTYPE - talk to who developed your skin to get them to fix it.

Perhaps, but the same code used as a master page instead of a dnn skin does not have this problem... and, if it did, you could just change the doctype right there in code instead of having to do these workarounds. Just seems like every issue I have with DNN might have a "fix," but the fix is always something that is either not needed or much easier to implement when creating a real site.
