Hi,

I posted about this at the beginning of the year, however I wanted to know whether there was an update. It is also very topical since I have just heard about a significant public website choosing Joomla over DNN. I understand that there were questions over DNN's Accessibility compliance etc. Of course the imminent V5 may contribute to this requirement.... but I have no idea.

This forum seems to be running more quickly .... Great.

Many thanks,

Sam

I would wait till DNN5 comes out, review it, and if there are any issues please log each individual issue one by one (specifically where improvements might be needed) in http://support.dotnetnuke.com. You may end up logging many issues (I'm really not sure though) but that's the only way to get it dealt with I suggest.

Cathal.

Thanks for this. It is reassuring that the DNN team understand the importance of compliant sites. Out of interest what Bobby rating will release 5 conform to A, AA or AAA ?

Also linked to this are SEO optimisation features.

I think it would be really useful to have white papers on :

a) How DNN meets accessibility standards.

b) How DNN helps in SEO optimisation.

These could be updated as new releases come out. However to me one of the reasons for going to a framework such as DNN is to automatically get these features which starting from scratch. Another advantage of having white papers is to help folks push DNN in a consistent way, rather than having the situation where one is scratching one's head and saying "Not sure, I'll check" which was my reaction when asked about accessibility compliance.

Food for thought.

Sam

Sam,

bobby's not a rating, it's a tool to test ratings. There are a large number of compliance & accessibility standards, and we're working on ensuring that dotnetnuke can pass as many of them as possible. For 5.0 we've been targetting xhtml compliance which is the underlying basis of many other standards. I checked in some changes to make it ADA-508 compliant (which is v.important in the US), and am also trying to ensure WCAG/WAI priority A (and the majority of AA). There are some other areas such as full css compliance which may take another version or two to fully work through.

One thing to note is that the default skin in 5.0 may not be fully WAI compliant (we're still working on a few minor issues such as the min/max icons), but that compliant skins can be created.
