Rodney,

I thought that I had read about facebook intergration when 5.0 was anounced at openforce in 2007. I do not know what the plan is. Maybe someone from the core can comment on this? however google did turn this link up.

That's a good article Dave - the only thing I am worried about is the time-frame. I know from the past 3-4 years that waiting for a particular feature in the core can be futile (no offense intended to the core team, just stating an observation! They do eventually make it in). I would imaging that a core change to leverage the FB or OpenSocial API would be at LEAST a year away (just my gut feel). The bigger and more complex DNN gets the longer QA will take and the slower modifications will take to make it in to the core, even with the new funding.

PS - I am basing my assumtions on the fact that this article is the only mention of Facebook (and not even Facebook Connect) and OpenSocial that I have heard of or seen. I am hoping DNN Corp can communicate their long-term plans on this feature a little more, whether it is good or bad news.

Yes, I saw that - I am glad Shaun is playing around with the FB API - I think it is critical to embrace the big players APIs at the core level to ensure we stay cutting edge and up to date.

We are currently targeting social networking API for our next major point release.  The inclusion of FB Connect, Open Social etc have not been specifically discussed but I will be sure to bring them up with the product team who will be working on 5.1 scope document this month.

I'm wondering why this would be considered for the DotNetNuke core as opposed to a module. I'm not expressing an opinion -- just genuinely curious about the thinking here.
