Hey All,

This blog post just popped up on my radar and I think it is a worthwhile read for those who may have stumbled on this thread about browser compatability.

Though this primarily discusses browser-based bugs, thanks to those that are diligent in testing, discussing, and reporting DNN bugs as well!

Take care,

Ian

I forgot how bad IE6 was, and I can't believe 20% of the browsing public still use it. If I could, I'd put a banner overlay on all my sites banning support of IE6 completely. However I can't, so I'm stuck trying to figure out exactly what's causing the problem.

The issue is weird, I only have one portal I can find that reproduce the issue with and when I switch the navigation provider the problem goes away. I have tried the dnnbeta.com site and that works perfectly in IE6. It seems like it is again an issue with the upgrade process. FireBug is showing a few weird characters on the first line in the dnn.js and dnn.diagnostics.js files which makes me think maybe they were compressed incorrectly, but without the debug scripts or clientapitests it's hard to troubleshoot.

Oliver or Jon,

One thing that may help to determine the problem is to get a copy of the Html source as it is rendered for IE6 and then another as it is rendered for FireFox and compare the differences.

I have also seen before where the DNNMenu had to be clicked twice to get it to accept the click, so I'd be interested to know if you can get the navigation to work after clicking the same item again.

I might be way off here (I don't have IE6 up and running), but wondering if it's anything to do with this:

I think nobody like IE6, but we must support it, if we like it or not.

Strange thing is, I just installed DNN 5 on a windows 2000 machine and it works as expected, no problems in IE6.

(I spent a lot of time to get the skin to work IE6 and I did not notice any of these problems during DNN 5 RC2 testing either)

Anything special in the way you installed or tested?
