Is 5.0.1 going to be released as a release candidate first and let people test it first?

no, it's a point release focussed almost entirely on bugs so it will be released as a final version

Final releases should always be tested anyway, whether or not there was a RC version.  This comes from a guy who managed to sneak into the downloads literally minutes after a release was posted only to have another release to fix that one posted less than 24 hours later...  :(

Yes, I did make a backup.  And yes I survived.  And no, I won't install a new release direct to production ever agin (unless of course I do...).

And it is being tested, the last release made no difference whether it was in the public domain or not. Remember this time it's generally just bug fixes, any more issues should be fixed in the next version, which no doubt will end up in the forums... unless you would prefer to wait another month or two? :).

Thanks...
