Smart hosts are not dotnetnuke related. I simply don't have the time to go into detail (I would have thought you would have got the message). I've told you it's capable of what you are asking for but costs $$$.

I would research this or consult other forums or hire a consultant. I have a smart host set up in an organisation but for completely different reasons. You have your pointers, you also have google (if you were that interested I suspect you would have done the research by now, I saw something relevant straight away on the first page of google to what you were asking (keywords: smart host)).

If you read the WIKI properly you probably wouldn't be in much doubt, it is a good very basic summary (hint look at the end of the article). A smart host is an intelligent relay (not a dumb one) where you can you can manipulate the SMTP message itself via a configured set criteria (i.e. scanning the message body for trigger keywords) as well as route the message via a set of customized rules (if required).

Please don't "expect" anything from me (you are not my paying customer), my time here is voluntary and I do what I can. I have my priorities as well. You are armed with the necessary knowledge to go forward should you choose to.

A smart host won't do any good when a malacious user intends to send out spam. In the feedback module, to use an example,  the form field is free form. So that user can enter any address unrelated to his portal's domain name. The body can be a bunch of viagra ads and a link to some other unrelated site. A smart host has no idea who sent it based on the message's information.  My concern is when DNN is used as a launching platform for sending out spam. The way DNN Is configured, it makes it easier.

I guess a DNN host can just modify the source to suit his needs. There are just no other workarounds. But I want the DNN developers to understand that per portal smtp settings is needed.

It has been already stated by core team members, that we know about the need and laid out the reasons, why we don't want to implement it on the fly.

Besides, in order to stop this discussion before becoming more rude, I close this thread.
