Everything in DotNetNuke perfectly works with relative paths, ...

Does it?

Yes, it does! On the dev site, friendly URLs are disabled. I have not much experience with friendly URL providers, but it should not be dificult to create such a provider that is aware of relative paths.

Getting back to my original question: Where in the DNN code is this replacement performed? At least when I choose "RAW" as rendering mode I would expect that my entered html remains unchanged.

It is a known limitation of DNN, to store paths to images relatively to the domain, and not relatively to the portal root, but any other solution would require a search and replace on every edit AND display. This affects all links in richtext content, which is not using linkclick.aspx.

Thanks for your reply Sebastian! Though, I do not quite understand why a search and replace would be required on display

If the image would be stored as src="Portals/0/images/pic.png", it would always work fine, no matter wether it is running under http://www.portal.com/ or http://www.portal.com/subportal/

Or am i missing something here?

Yes. 99,9% of all DNN installations have friendly urls enabled, which is also the default setting for years.

A friendly URL provider could inject a base url tag into the page, so relative img links would still work...
