Oops!  The site expired 1st June.  I have corrected this now.

Although you say not exactly on topic my argument is that you get what you pay for.

smehaffie,
Of course what you pay has a significant bearing on speed. It is directly related to the number of users (accounts/domains) hosted on the box. If I am the only one using a server my sites are going to be a lot faster than sites running from a server with 700 others, assuming sites on each server are getting "average" hits and similar infrastructure.

A server costs the hoster $x therefore they have to charge $x/number of accounts + overheads + profit otherwise they are out of business.

Yes, from the start I started that I was not comparing the two - merely presenting some data to help people make their relative decisions and provoke thought on cost vs speed (based on their indivdual budgets and requirements).

I wish I had moved away from WH4L a long time ago... perhaps I might have if I had seen something like this...

Exactly the same thing happened to my sites at WH4L, I switched to PowerDNN. All I can really say is that Tony Valenti and the crew at PowerDNN really know how to do it, fast and hard. Tony had me fully functional on a temporary monster server within 24 hours, the performance of my sites increased so much at I could put more on each page just because I could. When I first asked google what dnn host it said WH4L, when I asked it again 4 months later it said PowerDNN, google lied the first time, be aware.
