You have no reason to worry, DNN is sever base and has no interaction with the client UI/Shell as it runs inside a web browser installed on the client OS.

What Silverlight, .net, C++, (rich client) developers are concerned about, are these technologies will become a second class citizen on windows 8, if this becomes reality then these technologies will not be able to take advantage of the new touch features in the same way html 5 and java script will. Make no mistake, all of the programs you run today will run on windows 8; they will however need to run in UI compatibility/legacy mode.

Ok, fair enough. But go back and view the Windows 8 video that Microsoft released on Monday and you'll notice they said that IE 10 will be based largely on Silverlight and be the first of its kind touch enabled Web browser. So my question is, does or will DNN in run natively in Silverlight? That's my concern. Windows 8 is due out in just one year (2012).

It's possible a lot of folks will be running IE 9 and 10 side by side or tiles in Windows 10. It's anyone's guess at this point. Microsoft says sit tight until Sept. PDC to learn more.

I think you are mis-reading what MS is saying.  IE 10 is not written in Silverlight.  It supports silverlight applications (as did IE9 and IE8).  The browser runs HTML which in the end is what is generated on the server by DNN and subsequently served to the client browser.

Also, keep in mind that you have only seen the story as told by one division at Microsoft.  They were highlighting one specific aspect of the new OS.  You should not presume that a statement of support for one technology necessarily indicates a change in support for an alternative technology.  Windows 8, like all operating systems, is a complex beast.  It will have capabilities targeted at different markets and the story that is told will be different depending on which group is targeted with a specific message.  At this point, Microsoft has only been talking to the general consumer market and not to the developer community.  The communication with the developer community will happen at the build conference in September at which point Microsoft will lay out the full developer story for Windows 8.

It does not matter what i.e. 10 is written in or any additional touch support it may have, for dnn or any other web site to work requires a browser that can parse valid “web standard” html.

If you review the information closer Microsoft talked of support for html 5 and java script, this puts dnn in a great position, especially with the UI enhancements in 6.0.

Microsoft is not going to disable “web standards” in i.e. 10, but simply extend its abilities.

Okay, thanks for the clarification guys! I'll take your word for it, since you are the experts. Much appreciated. It's just that I had observed what happened with the Windows Mobile platform that rapidly morphed into the Metro UI or Silverlight, which I absolutely love by the way. I thought Microsoft might be doing the same thing with Windows 8, again with the Metro UI. As I said before, they are even bringing the Metro UI to Xbox.
