We looked at both for an intranet solution with DNN coming out on top. We felt SP wasn't the better fit for a general intranet although it works well in certain areas.

Skinning was an issue as well. DNN is a lot easier to customize and I needed a very specific layout with company colors and logos and SP wasn't so easily customized (although it is possible).
