I have just started working with DNN again after building several sites under 4.9.5 and earlier versions. I built a couple of sites around Active Social and Active Forums and knew that DNN acquired them. Can anyone tell me what happened? The last I heard, all the Active modules were to become part of the core? Now I am seeing a new face on the DNN site and Active Modules forums gone and this site focusing on 'Evoq.? What is the deal? I am sure there were threads/history on this but I can't find them.

What would I do with a 4.9.5 site built with Active Social in order to upgrade it? It now has 1500 members and very active forums?

Where are the Active Social/Forum modules in the core and how do I install and use them? Where are the support forums for them?

What does 'Evoq' have that the core would not as far as Active Modules? Last I heard all the difference would be between versions PE and CE was the mail connector?

Sorry to sound so out of it, but I have been for a couple of years.

thanks,

Will Sugg, Planet Maine

My suggestion would be to upgrade to DNN 6 and then stop it there. ActiveSocial is gone. It's available to no one. Do not let them tell you that it is part of DNN (core) because u don't get half of the features Active Social had.

AF is compatible with DNN 7 but again you lose lots of features (MC for sure). Plus DNN has abandoned AF so there is no (wont be any) progress.

Are you sure they have abandoned the forums?  Where can I read this? It's important because I've just told a client to shift from YAF to Active (New dnn ones) - there was an update on codeplex recently.

All this news is of concern to me.

Thanks Frozen. I remember your handle from the days we were working with Will M and Active Social folks. That was a vibrant scene and really pushing out some great stuff. I am sorry to hear that it sounds kaput for the CE edition. Does the Evoq have all the features of Active Modules? When I look at anything on this site about it, there just seems to be lots of PR fluff and not a clear explanation of what happened and what those of us that built around Active Social/Forums should do with those sites moving forward. I wish now we had written our whole social solution in XMP. Lesson learned.

thanks,

Will

1. active forums is not abandoned, a quick look at the codeplex site shows regular checkins (http://activeforums.codeplex.com/Sour...) and a beta back in late April (http://activeforums.codeplex.com/rele...). Since then we've done more work on it, and in fact had planned on migrating to it as part of the site-reorg here, but time caught up with us - I would expect it to happen soon (though we have a laundry list of other things to do first)

2. the majority of the active social IP was added to the core, and in fact that is what evoq social builds on (i.e. uses the same API methods etc., though almost all of it's modules are written from scratch). We (the dnn platform) team still have other social work we will be adding to DNN as time goes on, some of which is "old" activesocial functionality and other pieces enhancements (e.g. we'll support notification digests etc.)
