I take it you're still using an old version of DNN? I haven't heard of others having this issue, but perhaps it's a rare combination (very old issue with very recent sql server) - the portalsettings should never be empty so it would suggest a failing query or/and bad data - try select against vw_portals to see if that returns results.

Hi, the vw_portals returns nothing, but I have noticed that all tables and views start with "fxdnn" for some reason. Why would the original developer create all these new tables and views as a copy of the original tables? for example there is fxdnn_porrtals and fxdnn_portal_aliases.    I got the live database and website and managed to get a machine with IIS8, Server 2012 and SQL 2012. All I get is "this page cannot be displayed'. The database connection is correct in the ini file, I have tested this. I deliberately put in the wrong connection string and it brought me to the under construction page, so I changed it back.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I think I will have a nervous breakdown.

What was the Initial Version of DNN you get from your hoster? If the site not work on your local System you can't upgrade to new version! After a failed upgrade you have to restore database and files and starting from scratch.

First check if your Initial site works well. Then check modules and Providers if they still compatible with the new Version. If not they have to upgraded with the DNN System too, by adding the module zip file to the install/module folder. Check also the Providers.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that  the main site www.foxsbetting.ie/login.aspx doesn't work.  if you click that link you will see the error in the address bar. I took all files and the database to try to debug, but all I get is this page cannot be displayed.  Thanks for your help.
