I liked Cathal's suggestion of changing the PublicMembership.Text as a temporary way of hiding. However I tried the Google Search. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%E2... The only hits I get are this thread and copies of it. Unless everyone else is hiding I'm not finding them.

EDIT - Sorry - that's because the text is "Membership to this portal...". Not "Membership of this website..."

I *still* liked Cathal's idea. So I changed the text, and Recycled the App pool. It's not changed what the web site presents. It *still* says "*Note: Membership to this portal is public. Once your account information has been submitted, you will be immediately granted access to the portal environment. All fields marked with a red arrow are required. - (Note: - Registration may take several seconds. Once you click the Register button please wait until the system responds.)"

I think PublicMembershiup.Text is the wrong one, but I cannot find the right one. Any ideas?

PublicMembershiup.Text is the right position, it locates under App_GlobalResources\SharedResources.resx file. If you change it, the register UI should also change its information.

However, I don't think simply change
PublicMembershiup.Text can prevent spam registration. This is because: 1, there are other ways can be used to find dnn site, e.g, try search ctl=register in Google. 2. Once your site has been added into spam target, they can continue to post spam registrations, even you change "user registration" as "email verified" or "private".

I'm sure it should be right, but 1) the original value is NOT what the site displays, 2) when you change it the site display does not change.

Those results suggest it's the wrong place.

Anyone know the right place.

As a workaround - I have created a wiki page which essentially creates a custom registration page and then blocks the default registration page.  Thus the URL the spammers are trying to hit returns a 404, but your site registration still works as expected.

I have done this for my own site, and that has stopped the spammer registrations dead with no impact to users who want to register on the site, because they follow the 'register' link and it all works Ok.

Bruce - great piece of work. I think the editor swallowed some of your regex. Do you want to quickly review it?
