Most of DNN sites that I manage are shared hosted accounts with Godaddy using their Plesk control panel. I just checked and there are very few IIS settings I can access -- "preload" is one I cannot not set and according to their tech support it is set to false.

Hi Jim,

If you have access to Power Shell here is a great blog from Michael Tobisch that gives step by step instructions to create your own keepAlive service :

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Geoff

Hi,

1. Well, I finally heard back from the folks at dnnmonitor.com and yep, they have discontinued the service and shutdown the website.

2. The website I'm currently working on (not published as of yet) is the cause of concern with the "keep alive" service. The server is set to release it's resources after 5 minutes of inactivity. So for example, while working on lengthy content for an HTML module, the site would "go to sleep" when I tried to save / update the work. Or I would get a phone call while working on the site. And it would take a couple of minutes for the site to get going again. This was a real pain. But after doing a little more research I discovered that by just accessing the keep alive page on the site in a browser window (and keeping it open), the site would not go to sleep on me.

Jim,

What was your solution for this? I'm also using GoDaddy....

What I meant to ask was... what was your "long-term" solution to this, versus just while you were developing... on GoDaddy...
