I have a simple survey online at

http://feralsoftware.com/phpesp/public/survey.php?name=Dotnetnuke

The survey is to obtain an estimate of the number of sites across each version. The results will be tabulated and posted for public use. My interest in the survey is to quickly gauge the PA market requirement and version support requirements across all DNN versions.

Depending on the response I intend to set up some more detailed surveys on each version and the usage of the available PA's across each version etc.

Yes, this is important information to capture. I have a very simple 3x vs 4x survey going on (out of roughly 300 replies, only 1/3 use 3.x still). You can see it here.... you may want to change your survey to reflect future intenetions - ie. I have a couple of 3.x sites but the moment 4.3.x goes Gold I am upgrading them. I want to get rid of 3.x ASAP.

Out of interest, I also blogged recently on Smart-Thinker's Development strategy and how we are only releasing new versions and updates in 4.x. It's support-only for 3.x versions.

thanks Rodney - I did not realise you had a survey going. I did a prelim survey via google which still pulls up a good mixture of versions back to version 1 and version2. I understand that most commercial producers of PA's need to move with the times and version2 PA's are not financially festaible for most but then I still support a number of CPM and CDOS systems in the commercial and educational area so supporting older versions is not a hazzle to us. For those that are still running say version 2 due to client customisation we  back code v3 PA's (free code ones) back to V2 or update the older v2 PA with some of the improvements in V3 and V4 -  Its a market area

at the moment - but it is still running.

Version 1: 1.23%

version 2:27.38%

version 3:38.77%

version 4:16.62%

custom: 16%

There is no way to verify the number of custom istallations

the ratio between version 2 and version 3 is compatable to a google search on dotnetnkue keywords.
