Yay... Take Me to the Community!

Welcome to the DNN Community Forums, your preferred source of online community support for all things related to DNN.

Well I'd like to upgrade...really I would!  But I just program in my spare time and my day job is going to leave me precious little time to upgrade for the next 6 months or so.  I have started putting a package together on "what it would take" along with a discussion of my custom modules in hopes of maybe hiring someone to upgrade the site for me but as swamped as most DNNers are I doubt that'll come to fruition.

I hope to upgrade eventually but I just don't have the time to right now.

I understand. I have found that DotNetNuke 4 module development is much faster because there is less configuration. The DotNetNuke 4.3.7 Module Upgrade Wizard works great for converting your DNN3 modules to DNN4. Upgrading from DNN3 to DNN4 has also been as simple as:

1. Backup database and file system

2. Change IIS to run the site under ASP.NET 2.0

3. Unzip DNN4 over the DNN3 site

4. Update the connection string in the web.config

Also you can upgrade your site to DNN4 for new module development and keep old ones in DNN3 format and still use them in your DNN4 site.

Hey!  Thanks for that info.  I had no idea there was a wizard for conversion.  I really don't know what it would take but I don't think it would take much for my modules since they don't rely too heavily on dnn methods (at least as far as I know).

That's great info.  I'll make good use of it when I upgrade but that won't be for awhile.  I literally have no time for the next 6 months.

Thanks very much for the helpful info.
