What's the common wisdom on developing modules for distribution with dependencies on the 3.5 framework?

I have a module I am finishing up...but it uses LINQ to SQL and the ListView control, and a couple of other things new to 3.5.

I suspect I would be limiting my audience too much to ask them to edit their web.config's to include the 3.5 references.  Or is there anything coming up soon in the core platform to make it easier for folks to adopt framework 3.5?

The latest plan is that the Cambrian release will include a new module installer that will allow the changes to be made to the web.config when the module is installed. The object qualifier and database owner issue still needs a solution. The hope is that the same module installer will allow a program to run to make the needed replacements.

Michael,

Is there someplace where we can start to see more of the functionality, even if it's just bullet pointed, that will be included in Cambrian?

There's alot of stuff we're doing here that we're hoping will be facilitated by the new version, or if not, can we inquire about additional core functionality?

Thanks,

Brian

I do not have a bullet point list (the features change and they will not all be released at onece).

However, You can use all the new asp.net 3,5 features with DNN right now. I am using all the new controls, WPF, Silverlight, LInq, Linq to SQL, Linq to XML right now. There is no need to wait for Cambrian to do anything with asp.net 3.5.

ASimply install asp.net 3.5 on your machine and start coding. The only hold up we have right now is that you have to edit the web.config to use Linq to SQL.

Hi Michael .

i get this strange behavior - when i'm trying to change the dnn web site application with target of  3.5 framework ( in the properties window of the WSP) -

i starting to get VERY SLOW PERFORMANCE on accessing the home tab - the login dialog. the transition from page to page (at the first time ) taking at least 3 - 4 MINUTES (instead of 10 sec max in  2.0 framework) and i see  in task manager that the  vbc.exe (the vb compiler i guess) is on 49-51% cpu and it keeps this way a  long time.  but after i accessed the pages , in the second time it runs smoothly (using the compiled code i presume).

after returning back to 2.0 framework (changing in the properties dialog) all this behavior is gone and things are normal again.

why is this performance degradation ??!!

is it happening only for me?

thanks very much.

zahi.
