Hey There,

Im fairly new to DNN , but not an ASP.NET c# newbie.

I realise that using the IWEB module helps expose and secure modules as a web service gearing towards a more SOA architecture. But, .... as i merely want to consume a simple web service that i wrote a while back using ASP.NET 2 technologies , then what would be the best way to go about it ? . The only ref to this ive read so far is to do with IWEB for exposing, not consuming.

Apologies in advance if i have my wires crossed :)

Thank from Patrick

Consuming is exactly like in any project. Add a web reference and use the webservice methods through the proxy class created inside your project.

Right, thank you very much for your rapid response , i s much appreciated. :)

Firstly, this is what i thought , but i noticed there is no references /app_webref folder anwhere in the root nor in the individual desktop modules structures.

I could indeed click on the project rooot and a web ref from there , but i presumed u would have an individual app_webref folder for each individual module.

Could u clarify for me please.

Thanks a million

When the module uses WSP, the web references folder will be created. If using WAP, it is created inside the project. The proxy classes are compiled inside the assembly file and the webservice files will be inside the module folder, in a web reference folder.

Hooligannes,

This is something I have been looking at doing as well. Over the years we have created tons of services (asmx/wcf) for our external systems and i'm trying to see how we can use/consume these existing services. Normally this is a simple click of "Add Service Reference" or "Web Reference". In my VS08 project this should allow me to access this proxy class from my module. Once this is done when I create my module file from the admin tools to upload into production will it package everything that it needs or is there something I would have to do manually to the production server?

Any detailed reference/blog/video post would be great. I'm really starting do digg DNN and if I could really get over this hurdle i'm sure it will make things much sweeter!

Thanks in advance.

Eddie
