I do not use suddomains.  I have no experience forwarding subdomains, masking or not.  I always do the forwarding by controlling the folder (after the slash...)

You stated this :    subdomain tnpc.nwg.com forwarded to www.nwg.com/wg/tnpc

as subdomain tnpc of domain nwg.com resolves naturally to nwg.com/tnpc    You are trying to forward it to nwg.com/wg/tnpc    I don't see how that can possibly work.  It sounds circular...

From GoDaddy's own definition:   A subdomain is an easy way to create a memorable Web address for unique content areas of your site. For example, you could create a subdomain for pictures on your site called "pics" that is accessible through the URL pics.example.com in addition to www.example.com/pics.

Applying this to your subdomain story gave me a headache.

Robert,

Thank you for looking at my site. I appreciate your kind words regarding the look.

I would switch the DotNetNuke60 directory to something other than that so that it looks more professional but I am terrified of breaking my site. Can you give me the steps as to how to change it?

I am guessing I can go into GoDaddy control panel and change the name of the directory to say "Orlando". Do I then have to go into the DNN database and manually change every reference to DotNetNuke60? Where are these references? Will this break the path to my images on the site?

DNN confuses me a bit as it stores pages, paths and page content inside a database.

If you can, please give me steps necessary to change the directory name.

Thanks again as it is greatly appreciated!

Again, I appreciate everybody’s time here.

The thing that came closest to solving this dumb problem is
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/F...

Maybe the godaddy settings have evolved over time, because I didn’t need a couple of their steps, but I finally got something to work for me with no thanks to godaddy help, I might add.
I’ll document my steps here.

Problem statement:
On godaddy hosting,  create a new parent portal under a sub-domain:
Using “example.net” as the domain
Using “iamparent” as the new parent portal sub domain name
Using “\dnn-install” as the folder where DNN was installed

1) Create sub domain that points to dnn install:
a. Launch web hosting control center
   i. Click on domain management (or “Domains” Configure hosted domains)
b. The hosted domains list appears.
   i. Click one domain or on the manage sub domain link
c. The sub domains are listed
d. Click Add Sub Domain
   i. Give the sub domain a name: “iamparent”
ii. Click radio under folder: “Create or select a folder”
iii. Type in or browse to the dnn install folder
iv. It  needs to point to the dnn install dir, not a new folder!   (“\dnn-install”)
   v. Click ok and godaddy will return to the sub domains list – the new sub domain will probably show  status “pending”
vi. It will turn to status “setup” at some point
e. (If setting up a new domain, the folder also needs to point to the dnn install dir!)

2) Configure IIS
a. Return to the hosting dashboard
b. Select Content tab, IIS management
c. The root and some subdirs are displayed
   i. Make sure no boxes are checked
ii. Click the checkbox dir where dnn is installed
iii. Some icons will light up
   iv. Click the “Create” icon
   v. Give a directory name – use the name given to the sub domain: “iamparent”
vi. Only Settings “Anonymous Access” and “Set Application Root” are selected
vii. Click Ok – the status will be “Pending Setup”

3) In Dnn, create a parent portal.
a. Login as the superuser.  Use the dnn installation dir, main portal.
b. Choose “Host” (then depending on the dnn version,  “site management” or “Portals”)
c. Click “Manage”, “Add Portal” or “Add New Site”
   i. Portal/Site type:  parent
   ii. Portal/Site alias:  iamparent.example.net/dnn-install
   iii. Home directory-customize: iamparent
d. Enter other required fields
e. Click “Create Site”

4) Dnn will create the infrastructure.  If godaddy has setup the domain and IIS the default page of the template will display.

This has worked a few times recently. (12/12/2011)
