after install DNN on my server using the microsoft tool with all the defaults. dnn installed to the default web it works fine www.mydomain.com/dotnetnuke. question is, how do i make it the Default page. www.mydomain.com??

Also adding another portal works but when we try to login to the portal i get an error "server application unavailable" logs on the server make sense they say only one application of dotnetnuke can run at a time.

most important is getting dnn to the root. maybe related?

Thanks in Advance,
Your very humble apprentice
Bill

Hey William:

I've had the same question too and I never got an answer either.  There must be an answer somewhere because all these DNN sites are out there.  I'm sure there must be some elegant way to do it in DNN but I can't figure it out.  What I finally did was create the following basic HTML in my root directory and named it "default.html":

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
window.location = "http://www.myweb.com/dotnetnuke/"
//-->
</script>
<head>
<meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" />
<title>Untitled 1</title>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I'm sure there must be a more elegant way but I wasn't smart enough to find it.

I hope this helps

Larry

Actually i did finally figure it out myself. SAD nobody bothered to post anything responses.

Reinstall DNN, during the process it ask's if you want to create a new site or add DNN to an existing site. by default it wants to add dnn to the default site then create an application called dotnetnuke. Choose create new give it a name and an alias which is the fqdn or host header url of the site. Don't choose an application name leave that as "/" and pick the path to the files you want. quite easy actually to bad none of the docs are of any help at all and the installer guides you toward the wrong direction.

Changing the skins is another issue I have yet to resolve! these forums are well answered if you have a hard coding question but getting started is AWFUL. let me know how you land on this.

Kudos to you!  That process is definitely not obvious or intuitive.  I still haven't figured it out.     I took a run at DNN when Ver. 5 was released but gave it up because I couldn't get an answer to this very question.  I figured I must have been too stupid to merit an answer.  My admittedly kludgy work around is O.K for now.  I'll save your response and try it the next time I want to do an installation of DNN.

I was exactly the same way. I gave up until recently when i was pushed back to it again. If I cant figure out the skin thing soon it will be back to wordpress for us.

With the skin thing i followed the instructions and other peoples walk threw's and the skins just wont change on the live site. they do change however for the admin panel Very Strange.
