OK, so you are using IIS 6. Please open IIS Manager, and check which AppPool is assigned to your website. Also check which ASP.Net version is activated. Then check under which identity this AppPool is running (default is Network Service).

If there are more than one sites running on this AppPool, be sure that all of them use the same ASP.Net version.

Next check if the AppPool identity has enough permissions on the database, and that this identity has at least modify permissions on the directory (and all subdirectories) where DNN is installed.

Also check the two connection strings in the web.config file. They should point to the SQL Server instance used and use integrated security. You can add a new textfile somewhere on the server, rename it to "test.udl" and double-click it. Then enter all the necessary information to connect to the database (use "SQL Native Client" or "SQL Server" as driver, not these old ODBC stuff), and click on "Test connection". If it works, open the file using an editor and copy (or at least compare) the connection string that you find there with the ones in your web.config file.

Hope it helps...

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Michael,

Success!  Though I'm not really sure why.  When I went to check whith app pool was assigned to the site, I noticed there were two with the site name under DefaultAppPool.  Under Web Sites, I brought up the Properties for the site, and removed the Application Name entry on the Home Directory tab.  This changed one of the app pool entries for the site to ROOT - and now the site works.  Do you know why?

Thanks much for all your help.

Well, that's good news. I guess that the two sites had either different .Net versions assigned, or the AppPool user was not correctly assigned. Anyway - good luck, and if you have any further questions feel free to post here...

Best wishes
Michael
