Hi,

I have been given a copy of a DNN website, its data DB and the DNN DB.

My manager has changed our domain hosting to accept the new web address of the location of the new DNN DB. I know this is probably not a good idea of setting up a DNN DB but it is what I have been given to work on, We are running DNN version 5.2.

I can logon onto the new site locally but when I try to logon onto the new site with its new URL I end on the old system.

I have already changed the alias settings on Host/Settings/Portal/Alias Settings to point to the new web site.

Is there any hidden record on the DNN database that I should also be changing?

Regards, Barry T.

Good morning Barry,

There's a couple items.  I would first check the DB's Portal Alias table:  This is sql I often run when setting a site up locally - but it will give you an idea where to search.

update [dbo].[PortalAlias]
set HTTPAlias = Replace(HTTPAlias, '.com', '.local')
go

Another area to look would be in the PortalSettings table - looking where the SettingName = DefaultPortalAlias

Finally- there could be something cached locally or on your server. Running your cmd prompt and running ipconig /flushdns - to flush your local DNS can help. And sometimes you have to close your browser.

Hope this helps

Hi Andrew,

thanks for the heads up.

I had already tried the Portal Alias table as per my post but to no avail. Tried your other 2 suggestions and nothing there either.

I am now re-installing the DNN website from scratch and will see how that goes.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

Regards, Barry T.

To anybody who might have been viewing my previous thread and could possibly help,

I Found a copy of DNN version 5.2, download it and created the DNN website and database. A couple of minor problems with a few duplicate items in the web.config file, which I remarked out, and a few spelling mistakes by my dyslexic fingers, but all and all, it went okay.

However, when the DNN installation wizard finished and it displayed the web home page with a Register and Login links. Unfortunately neither of them work. You can click on them, as in they are links, but they go nowhere - they both when you hover on them show "javascript_doPostBack('dnn$dnnLOGIN$cmdLogin',") <----<< login replaced by register in that case.

I have seen several posts for this issue but none with any solution. I found one talking about the PortalLocalization table and the LoginTabId field not being NULL but in my case it is NULL.

Does anybody have any ideas? Much appreciated.

Regards, Barry T.

Barry,
DNN usually uses just one SQL database and a number of files in the IIS website directory, which need to be considered as unseparatable parts of a DNN installation.
