my script seems to be 1 example. I use my outer query with (NOLOCK) and do inserts and perhaps updates with the inner loops. my script is primary an import scripts.
this latest one I have inserts a copy of a template and does an update on that copy of the modules copied onto it tab.

the dnn api I don't think I have any control over, and my querys are to my exported old database with nolocks. I am not querying the DNN database.
I am doing a few single inserts and updates.

so when someone is running that OR when hitting pages that have tree views loading or such OR when the background search crawler is running out site slows way down.

we have taken 1 step in having a separate alias under a different app pool for our admins to work from as the admin bar at the top seems to slow our site down for people.

I just get the feeling that all requests are running linear.

are there steps I can take to debug how our site is slowing and bottlenecks and or some kind of database locks.

I'm afraid that doesn't make sense to me - in theory your script could cause deadlocks so http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/SQL-Server-deadlocks and http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/Analyzing-Deadlocks-with-SQL-Server-Profiler would help track them done. However I have no idea why this would affect standard DNN pages unless the sql server is under-specced and can only process limited requests -you could check this with sql server profiler
