there is a store module bundled, you may easily install from Host :: Extensions, using "install available extensions" from the action menu when in Edit mode. Besides, there is another free Shop module for download at nb_store.codeplex.com. There will be presentations at European Day of DotNetNuke next Friday.

You can write modules in any .net language, c# included.  The beauty of DNN is that it is a compiled solution and not a bunch of scripts.

Theoretically you could even write one in LOLCODE - as in 'CAN HAS DotNetNuke.Common.Globals?' :)

Yes, it's a bit awkward and confusing.  Start with the "Admin" module, set up the store paramaters and enter a few categories and products. Then you can see how the modules fit together.  You can edit the HTML for the catalog pages to make them look better than the default.

Good luck, I'm still working on mine, not yet sure if I will use it or buy a commercial module.
