Thanks, Mark.  Your response echoes that of Matthias above.  You will see in my response to him that my post is quite general but I do want to implement a Gallery in some form so the list you provided will be useful for research.  Do you have a favourite/s?

Hi Sebastian, are you saying that the Form and List module provides an example of more specific permissions that have been implemented by using the extensible security system in the core?  If so, could you provide an indication of what these permissions relate to?   Is it also possible for you to provide a link to a forum post/s that deal with this subject?  Many thanks.

Paul, there are a couple of modules using custom permissions, FnL uses "create records" "edit records", "moderate", to allow more granular control. Besides there are additional core permissions like import and export, which are exposed by more granular permission providers, e.g. in DNN Professional Edition or free Advanced Permission Provider from www.OliverHine.com
