yes - a provider simply creates an interface layer to allow core and all modules using it without any knowledge, which rich text editor is installed.

But when DNN Corp does the provider and Telerik does the editor neither does the support. I haven't been able to get editor questions answered here on the forum and when I contacted Telerik they said they didn't support the DNN version. It seems a much better arrangement would have been to convince Telerik to do the provider AND to support the whole thing. I would gladly pay for a Telerik supported RADEditor module for DNN.

you may suggest it to Telerik, but I don't expect them to agree (in fact, they had their own provider before with a number of limitations). there are advanced 3rd party providers, e.g. radeditor.codeplex.com and dnnckeditor.codeplex.com

Thanks, Sebastian for the information. At least the codeplex projects seem to have active forums just for that project so I could hopefully get good support.  I'm still a bit confused, though.  If you download the radeditor codeplex provider does that include radeditor?  And is the whole thing free? Same thing for the CKeditor provider?

Thanks,
Steve A.

Steve, all Codeplex projects are free and open source. CkEditor is the leading open source rich text editor, with a very active community and numerous extensions. The provider is created and maintained by "the watcha", one of the most active community members (and a member of the German User group, we are proud of!) - he created other great DNN projects like improved module action menues, tag cloud and YAF (Yet another forum) integration. RadEditor is provided by dnnwerk.de, responsible is Philipp Becker, co-lead of the German user group, who also provides free Nuntio Content and DNN Page Admin - also great modules :))
