Those authentication providers cathal posted are neat. I wonder if you could merge all four core providers into a single provider and just have an option for the user to select which way they want to authenticate.

you don't need to, you can install multiple providers, and then enable them on a portal by portal basis. If multiple providers are installed and enabled, then the user see's "tab" like buttons that allow users to select their prefferred authentication method.

Jay, log into your site and go to admin->extensions, click the pencil link beside the authentication provider(s) and you'll have the ability to switch them on/off via the enabled checkbox (you can also add CAPTCHA checking on every provider)
