Hello Kim,

Consider Ventrian's News Article module as a blog. It's a fantastic module that is constantly being refined by Scott. It is fully template driven so it can be styled to match your site. And you really can't go wrong with the subscription pricing. I've had mine for many years.

Check out digArticle.  Example 1, Example 2.  And we have lots of dashboards including an Article Slider.

I should say Ventrian is good, but if it turns out not meet your quirements, you could consider a custom module development from Nova Software.
