Just wondering if there is a naming convention in place here?

I have a user ID of 172 who has a user directory of \Portals\0\Users\172\72\172

Anyone know?

it is a somewhat strange algorithm to prevent a parent folder getting too many subfolders, even if your site will be having more than 1 million of users with their individual folder each.

Any chance I can get it in code (find it?) so I can store image uploads from a custom module in the correct place?  I looked/googled for while, but alas could find nothing useful.  Is there a method/property that would give it to me?  The issue is that most times it does not even get created until the user logs in for the first time, not when they sign up.  Which is OK, but I would still like to know what  the user dir is (or would be if logged in).

I'm looking for the same thing. Is this stuff documented anywhere?

I fear, the only documentation for this is called source code.
