Jeff I am also wanting to move from a 3rd party event calendar to dnn events but the ability to have a nice small month calendar on the front page has held us back. 

Did you ever modify the small calendar template to be more professional looking.  The standard small calendar is not very attractive and I'm about to tackle modifying the look.

If you were able to get it working would you be willing to share the template?

If you are willing to share the template (.css and images if any), are you willing to share it to everyone?

And let us include it in an Events release?
