Ok, problem solved. Thanks Ernst Peter.

I was confused/mislead because the text of the RSS title and description looked like a template format. Apparently this is a bug in the update process.

It's explained clearly what the meaning of the RSS fields are, they are NOT template strings where you can place tokens in.
On the bottom af the event settings page there is a setting called 'Event template'. You can specify the template for the RSS feed there. 

All is working well.
