Upgraded from 4.5.5 to 5.0.1

Off your list I had already tried all of those options except for disabling LiveID and OpenID, I did that, restarted IIS, and we still had the same issue.

For now we have resolved this by customizing the login module to not allow any of the buttons on it to be pressed until window.onload fires. This isn't a great solution since users with slow connections have to sit and wait for the page to load but it is the only thing we can come up with. The strange thing is this only happens on login, never on postbacks in other pages. That tells me that it deals with either the logging in process, or with module visibility as when you log in new modules become visible to users.

As for third party modules, basically everything in our site is developed in house, but these problems never occured on 4.3.3 or 4.5.5, only now on 5.0.1. Hopefully someone can figure out the cause of it, thanks for the attempt Alex!

Transferring this post over from another thread via request...

Hi

I recently upgraded a test site I’m running from 4.9.2 to 5.0.1. After the install I found that trying to log in generated a critical error but only going through my work’s internet. When I access my test site from other locations I login just fine. I was also able to login fine under the previous 4.9.2 install via my work internet. Does anyone know what might be happening here? I did read some posts here and my page is fully loaded when I try logging in so that's not it. Also, my site is hosted by power dnn. I am using page blaster. The techs at PowerDNN indicated they were able to log in just fine also so it seems to be something localized to our setup here that used to be fine but now is not.
We also have a locally installed dnn site running 4.8.3 and that continues to opperate just fine so its not a firewall change or anything affecting all dnn sites. Very strange.

Thanks
Mike

A critical error has occurred.
Failed to load view_state. The control tree into which view_state is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save view_state during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.

If PowerDNN can still log in then obviously it's something on your localmachine/network. Or goto a cybercafe, log on to a toally different PC and see what happens.

Otherwise:

Did you get any error messages in the install script at all? Did you see an upgrade sucessful message? Upgrading with pageblaster enabled is not recommended anyway, I would create a testbed, restore from backup previous files/database, disable pageblaster and try the upgrade locally.

Oh and the other thing is to try and remove third party dll's from your bin folder (one by one) and see if your site pops up at any stage. Obviously don't delete the dll's you will need to put them back when you get somewhere (hopefully).

Yup, I agree that its something with my local set up, as everywhere else I've tried it it has worked. PowerDNN did the upgrade so I'm assuming all went ok on their end. I'll try your dll solution and see how it goes.
Thanks.
Mike
